The Queen of California
A fugitive steals a map to a mythical island of gold, and becomes the only thing standing between it and the empire that wants to burn it down.
Reimagines Calafia, the legendary Black warrior queen first introduced in the 1510 Spanish novel Las Sergas de Esplandián. Sabria, on the run from a brutal pirate captain, steals a map to California, a mythical island of gold ruled by Queen Calafia and defended by warrior women and soaring griffins. The theft makes her the key to the island's survival.
Hunted by Diego de Alvarado, a Spanish privateer determined to claim the island for the Crown and himself, Sabria is pulled into a war of shifting alliances, ancient prophecy, and forbidden power. She and Calafia fight to protect a kingdom that could change the course of history.
